  1. I think I should win these tickets for a few reasons.

    1. I write thoughtfully and uniquely about food at www.thenycmenugirl.com. I have a strong following, and can share with my audience how great this event was, what foods were delicious, what chefs to look out for, etc.

    2. I believe in good causes, and too often we do not consider our entitlement to having food on our plate everyday. We derive such great pleasure from a variety of foods, but we need to consider that some people do not even have access to food, let alone the delicacies at these finer events.

    3. I know how to have fun, and food IS fun!

    Thanks!

  2. I think I should win these tickets for the following reasons:

My love of food has become such a passion that when I was layed off due to the recession, after months of spending my spare time gardening and cooking, I realized that these were the things that truly made me happy and I returned to school to become a nutritionist and registered dietitian.

In my spare time I explore the restaurants of NYC with great gusto, write of my experiences so I can share them with the world and hopefully encourage others to seek the joy I experience. If I weren't a grad student and could afford it, I'd probably try to eat at a different restaurant every day.

Food is one of the few things that can bring me joy no matter how low I am. For my last birthday present, I requested dinner at Le Bernardin as my gift. I couldn't think of anything I'd like more than that.

    Thanks for counting me!

  4. Since birth I was called "gordis" in Spanish and you could say since then I've become a Foodie. I have joined multiple sites as a fan of my love for food. Of course moderation is key ;) But ultimately I will be sure to spread the word about this exclusive event on various sites. I deserve this because I've had a rough couple of years. One always comes out stronger and the end result brings forth a courageous individual that loves life and all it has to offer, food being one of my greatest loves. Just the thought causes my eyes light up, I have a deep appreciation for either the simple or most complex of meals.

  5. For as long as I can remember, food has been a central part of my life. I was fortunate to grow up with parents who never caved-in to serving kid v. adult food (only when they had liver and onions, were we spared), so I was 'forced' to try all different types of food. Be it the quiche my mom burned and couldn't server at her catering gig, risotto milanese that my dad insisted I help stir even though I had to stand on a stool to reach the pot, or the bacalla served at Christmas, all have imparted fond memories and helped to form my love and appreciation of food. Nowadays, I spend a lot of time as most foodies do, in restaurants and blogging about it, researching the latest trends, following fellow foodies on twitter and reading food mags and cookbooks to satiate my curiosity for what is new and exciting. Attending Taste of the Nation would enable me to sample delicious bites from some of the cities best restaurants, which really excites me! I also am a firm believer in Share Your Strengths mission- it is unfathomable that people in this country go without food when there is such an abundance available. Kudos to SOS!

  6. I would love to attend Taste of the Nation in New York. I have attended Taste of the Nation in Santa Barbara, California, Sun Valley, Idaho, Seattle (five times) and Portland, Oregon (tenth time on Monday, April 26), but I would love to attend the best event of all, which is the New York Taste of the Nation. My wife and I look forward to our annual date night and being that our 25th anniversary is coming up in June, I would love nothing better than to surprise my wife with a trip to New York for the event.

Thank you, Share Our Strength, for doing such a wonderful job by staging this incredible dinner and providing food for the needy.

  8. Growing up in an enormous family, having enough food was an issue for us when I was younger. My family has never been at the poverty line or anything like that, but I distinctly remember my mother constantly stressing about coupon cutting, buying in bulk, and us never eating out. The amount of stress I felt when worrying about food even just being a child was amazing.

Eventually, my family became stable and being able to afford food was no longer an issue. However, I always remind myself that there are a lot of families in this country that you would never guess have trouble getting food on the table. For this reason, I have volunteered at various organizations that are dedicated to feeding the hungry over the years.

Anyways, I am lucky to live in NYC now and truly appreciate every opportunity to try new foods and restaurants as I can. I want tickets to this event of course for the amazing chefs that will be there- but also because it will be so inspiring personally for me to attend an event with a cause close to my heart. The best part of it will be seeing that acclaimed chefs and restaurants- those who know all things food on a level most of us can't understand- are the ones at the forefront of the fight against hunger.

  9. I grew up with a single mom and we often relied on food pantries and free school lunch in order to make ends meet. Now that I'm an adult and living on my own, I can't bear the thought of seeing kids go hungry. I volunteer with City Harvest and I'd love to attend this great event. I post recipes, restaurant reviews, and running tips on my blog "The Runner's Kitchen" and I promise to provide thorough coverage of the event if I'm selected to win the VIP tickets. It would be a dream come true! :)

  10. I would feel so grateful to win the tickets that I would be smiling like an alligator. Moreover, in between bites of food and drink, there has to be some conversation and I would have a lot to contribute. Originally from inner-city Detroit, while I don’t have any bullet holes or stab wounds to show off, I do have interesting tales to tell. On the other hand, I did learn a few social graces along the way and I would promise not to dribble food down my chin or wear a napkin like a bib. I even have a PhD (they give them to anyone these days) and I could really confuse people by switching between academese and urban slang. Finally, from my early days of meager means, I know how to bus tables and wash dishes, you never know…

On the other hand, reading the convincing and interesting narratives already written, I’d feel happy to see any one of the worthy candidates receiving the tickets.

  11. I would like to be entered to win these tickets because I love supporting Share Our Strength through events that ignite the community. Most recently, I participated in New York City's Food Bloggers' Bake Sale, which raised over $1200 to support SOS. I'm also leading a Skip Lunch Fight Hunger team as part of City Harvest's annual fundraiser and truly believe one person can make a huge difference when it comes to fighting childhood hunger!
